FAA Certified Security Concern: New FAA ASDI Blocking Process

As a Flight Explorer customer, you previously had the ability to request the blocking of aircraft through the National Business Aviation Association’s BARR program.

Effective August 2, 2011, the FAA has implemented new policies and procedures for the blocking of aircraft data in its Aircraft Situational Display to Industry (ASDI) and National Airspace System Status Information (NASSI) data feeds.

As explained in the Notice, an aircraft owner or operator may certify a security concern based on a Valid Security Concern. A Valid Security Concern is defined in the Notice as "the facts and circumstances establishing ... a verifiable threat to person, property, or company, including a threat of death, kidnapping or serious bodily harm against an individual, a recent history of violent terrorist activity in the geographic area in which the transportation is provided, or a threat against a company." 76 FR 32259-60. As stated in the Notice, "a generalized, non-specific security concern" would not constitute a Valid Security Concern. 76 FR 32261.

Please note: Block requests are no longer submitted to the National Business Aviation Association (BARR program). All existing and new requests to block aircraft data must be directly submitted to the FAA. If you had aircraft blocked through the BARR Program, you will have to submit a new request directly to the FAA.
