AVweb/Flight Explorer Upgrade FAQs
ATTENTION: You must continue using your current AVweb Flight Explorer Personal Edition 4.0 until July 5th.
Why is AVweb making this change?
AVweb seeks to continue to provide value to you, their loyal subscribers. By making this change, you can immediately upgrade to AVweb Flight Explorer Personal Edition 5.0 for free. For an additional monthly charge, you can upgrade to Flight Explorer’s latest product, AVweb Flight Explorer Pilot Edition.
How do I install the AVweb Flight Explorer Personal Edition V5.0 software?
You will need to download our client software application for FE Personal Edition 5.0 from our website. After July 5th you will be able to log-in to the new FE client software application and use Personal Edition as you normally would. To download the new software, click here.
Do I have to upgrade?
You can continue using your current version of the AVweb Flight Explorer software through July, but as of August 1, 2006 you must upgrade as service to the old version of FE will cease.
What new features are in AVweb Flight Explorer Personal Edition V5.0?
Some of the new features in FE Personal Edition V 5.0 include FAA Airport delays, enhanced terrain/elevation map depictions and updated Airways, NAVAIDs, Fixes, Special Use Airspace, Sector boundaries, Flight Service Stations and more. For a complete list of Personal Edition features, click here.
What is AVweb FE Pilot Edition and how can I upgrade to it?
FE Pilot Edition is our enhanced version of Personal Edition designed specifically for pilots by pilots. Pilot Edition offers enhanced features such as a 2km Nexrad weather overlay, FAA preliminary flight plan alerts and email alerting capabilities to notify family or friends of your arrival and/or departure. You can upgrade to Pilot Edition after July 5th by logging into your account
on our website.
How will the change affect my billing?
You should not notice any change in the billing process. You will continue to be billed monthly on your anniversary date. However, your credit card statement will reflect a charge from Flight Explorer instead of AVweb.
How can I make changes to my personal or credit card information?
After July 5th you can access your account information
on our website. Once you have logged in you will be able to modify your password, update you contact and billing information, and view session logs and invoices.
Will I need to change my userID?
You will not need to change your userID unless it is currently being used by an active Flight Explorer customer. In that case you should receive an email informing you of your new userID. If you do not receive an email and you are unable to login after July 5th, please contact Flight Explorer customer support.
Who can I contact for technical support?

If I upgrade to the new version, will I lose my User Defined Views?
No, you can keep your User Defined Views by following either set of instructions below when upgrading to FE Personal Edition 5.0:
- Prior to installing the new Flight Explorer application determine the location of your current version. You can easily do this by checking the properties of the shortcut icon you use to start the program. During the installation process you will be prompted for the location where you wish to install the application; choose the directory of the current application. The installer program will detect the previous version and you must choose to retain your existing view settings. When you run the new application your views will be available.
- Prior to installing the new Flight Explorer application determine the location of your current version. You can easily do this by checking the properties of the shortcut icon you use to start the program. Browse to this folder and copy the UDView.sys and SysSet.sys files. Now install the new Flight Explorer application into the default folder (C:\Program Files\Flight Explorer\Personal). Then browse to that folder and replace the two files with the ones you copied. When you run the new application your views will be available.
